Mystery Boxes Your Customers Can Check

Turn products you already stock into mystery boxes for your Shopify store. Buyers see live odds before they pay, open their box in a 3D reveal, and the box ships like any other order.

How It Works

Pick products, accept the suggested odds, choose a look, publish. Then it runs on Shopify's own order flow.

  1. Pick Your Products

Choose items you already stock and sort them into tiers. Rarium suggests the odds from your pool, so you never have to work out weights, and shows the box's expected value against its price before it goes live.

  2. Publish Your Box

Give it a pack, cube, capsule or gift look and an opening gesture that fits your shop. The box is a normal Shopify product; its odds are computed from the live pool and shown on the box page.

  3. They Open It, You Ship It

After checkout your customer opens their box in a 3D reveal, on the order status page and from their email. The order in your Shopify admin lists the item they pulled, and you ship it with your usual fulfilment.

What Changes For Your Shop

Six problems a shop selling collectibles or gifts runs into, and what a box does about each.

ProblemWhat Rarium doesWhat you get

Stock That Sits Still

Mid-value and bulk items do not sell one at a time, and discounting them cheapens the shop.

Put them in a box beside real chase items. Buyers see every tier and its odds first.

A new product from inventory you already paid for. No new stock to buy.

The pool builder

Collectors Who Assume It Is Rigged

Mystery boxes have a reputation, and your community talks.

Live odds on the box page, every pull listed including commons, and a receipt anyone can re-check.

Suspicion becomes something you answer with a link.

Live odds from a real store

A Grey Zone You Would Rather Stay Out Of

You have heard mystery boxes can be treated as gambling.

Every purchase gets a real item. No cash, no credit, no buyback. The draw runs after payment, and each box can block regions.

You sell a product with a surprise in it, not a chance at money.

How it is built

No Reason To Come Back Tomorrow

A normal product page is finished once it is bought.

Sealed editions whose odds shift as they sell, a recent-pulls feed, and a reveal your buyer can replay and share.

Something new happens in your shop every time someone opens a box.

The live edition counter

Promotions That Only Discount

Ten percent off over a threshold trains buyers to wait for sales.

Gift boxes: spend a threshold and get a free pull instead of a discount.

A reason to add one more item that costs you a product, not your margin on everything.

The gift box in the sample store

Fees That Grow With Your Prices

Apps that take a share of sales charge you more for your best items.

Flat monthly plans metered per pull, with a hard ceiling.

An expensive box costs the same to run as a cheap one.

Recent Pulls

  1. No pulls yet. The next one anyone makes in Lumenhall appears here, common or not.

Odds From Live Stock

The odds are worked out from the items in the box right now, never typed in. When an item runs out it drops out of the draw and the odds change with it. No setting hides them.

Every Pull Listed

Your store shows what was pulled, commons included. There is no filter for only the good ones, so a buyer can tally the feed against the odds.

A Receipt Anyone Can Re-Run

The randomness for each pull is sealed and published on your own domain before the order. Afterwards the secret is revealed, and two shell commands reproduce the result.

How Fairness Works

Two Ways To Sell A Box

A box either draws from a pool you keep topping up, or sells a fixed run you seal on day one. You choose per box, and you see the expected value against the price before either goes live.

Weighted Pool

You set how likely each tier is, or accept the odds Rarium suggests from your stock. Restock whenever you like; the odds follow the pool.

Collector CubeBase 52%, Rare 30%, Epic 14%, Legendary 4%
  • Good for a box you keep selling month after month.
  • Items that run out leave the draw, and the odds update on the box page.

Sealed Edition

A fixed run of units. Every unit is in the box from the first sale, the odds are exact fractions, and they shift as units sell. You know the whole payout on day one.

30 of 30 leftEdition 01, CHF 120 a box
2 Legendary, 4 Epic, 8 Rare, 16 Base in the run right now. A sold unit is dashed. Live from Lumenhall.
  • Good for a drop: a numbered run your customers can watch sell through.
  • The chance of each unit is stated as a count, “2 in 30”, not a rounded percentage.

Make It Look Like Your Shop

The reveal is the moment your customer remembers, so it should look like it came from you. Each box chooses its own vessel, and the light it opens to is the tier that was drawn.

A foil pack your buyer rips open, the way packs open at the counter, or a braced cube for slabs and bigger pulls. Every pull carries its condition grade, NM to HP.

A capsule your buyer twists open, for figures, designer toys and blind-box style goods.

A wrapped gift whose ribbon your buyer pulls loose, for curated goods where the surprise is the present.

  • The Pack vessel

    Rip it across the top

  • The Cube vessel

    Cube

    Pull the tape tab

  • The Capsule vessel

    Capsule

    Twist it open

  • The Gift vessel

    Gift

    Pull the ribbon

  • A vessel per box: pack, cube, capsule or gift
  • Each vessel's own opening gesture, a single tap, or instant
  • Backdrops, burst effects and button styles
  • Sound, with a mute button for the buyer
  • A reveal that works with reduced motion

Built To Keep You On The Right Side

Regulators draw lines around chance, money and disclosure. Rarium is built so a box sits on the product side of each one, and where you sell stays your decision.

How Rarium Handles Compliance
  1. Every Purchase Is A Real Item

A box always contains products from your stock. Nothing in it is a voucher, a token or a chance at something later.

  2. Odds Are Always Published

Computed from the live pool and shown on the box page before purchase. No setting hides them.

  3. No Credit, Currency Or Buyback, Ever

Nothing a buyer pulls can be traded back for money or store credit. The feature does not exist, and will not.

  4. The Draw Runs After Payment

The pull happens once Shopify reports the order as paid, never inside checkout.

  5. Region Blocking Per Box

Block countries or US states for any box, enforced at checkout. Belgium is blocked by default.

  6. Gift Pulls Are Capped

A gift box adds at most four free pulls to one order, so a promotion stays a gift.

  7. A Full Record Of Every Pull

The order, the exact pool at that moment and the result, written as the pull happens and never edited.

This describes how Rarium works. It is not legal advice, and whether mystery boxes are allowed where you sell is your call.

It Fits How You Already Work

A box is a Shopify product and ships as a Shopify order. Nothing about fulfilment changes, and every order lists the prizes to ship.

Stock Is Held, Not Oversold
While a box is live its prizes sit in Shopify's reserved stock, so the same item cannot also sell through its normal listing.
Refunds Go Back In The Box
A returned prize rejoins the box's pool instead of only restocking as a single item.
The Order Lists The Prizes To Ship
The box is a normal line on the order, so shipping rates and fulfilment carry on as they are. The order page lists exactly what came out of each box, with a packing list to print.
The Reveal Finds The Buyer
On the order status page, by email, and from a link they can replay and share. You do nothing per order.
You Can See How Boxes Perform
On Growth and Pro: the reveal funnel, what you paid out against what you took, and every pull as a CSV.

Pricing

Questions Shop Owners Ask

Something else on your mind? Write to hello@rariumboxes.com and a person answers.

Is this gambling?

Rarium is built around the lines regulators draw: every purchase gets a real item, the odds are published before purchase, and no money or credit ever comes back out. Where you sell is still your decision, so every box can block the regions that say no.

This describes how the app works. It is not legal advice.

Do my customers always get something?

Yes. Every box holds products from your stock, and every purchase ends in one of them, added to the order and shipped like anything else. The box page shows the lowest value a pull can land on before anyone buys.

Can I choose exactly what goes in a box?

Yes. You pick every item from your own products and put each one in a tier. Rarium suggests the odds from your pool, and you can change them before you publish.

How are the odds worked out?

From the pool itself. In a weighted box an item's chance is its weight against the weight of everything still in stock. In a sealed edition it is its units against the units left. The box page shows the result, worked out again whenever stock changes.

What stops me, or you, from changing the result?

The randomness for a pull is fixed before the order exists. Its hash is published on your shop's own domain first, and the buyer's own order number is the other half of the calculation, so once both exist there is exactly one possible result.

What the proof does not cover is the pool. You can change items and odds between pulls, as you would change any product, and every receipt records the exact pool its pull ran against.

Can a customer check their pull?

Yes. Every buyer gets a receipt page with the pool their pull ran against, the hash published before their order and the secret revealed after it. Two shell commands, or any SHA-256 tool, reproduce the result.

What happens when an item runs out?

It drops out of the draw, and the odds on the box page are worked out again from what is left. A sealed edition simply counts down until its run is sold.

What about refunds and returns?

Refund the order in Shopify as you normally would. A refunded prize goes back into its box's pool instead of only returning to stock as a single item, so the odds stay true to what is in the box.

Does it work for trading card singles and graded cards?

Yes, that is what it was built for first. Every pull carries its condition grade on the NM to HP scale, and graded slabs go in a box like any other product. Rarium is not affiliated with any card game or publisher.

Can I block countries?

Yes, per box, for countries and for US states. It is enforced at checkout, and Belgium is blocked by default.

What does Rarium see about my customers?

Only what a reveal needs: the customer on the order, to check that the person opening a reveal owns it, and their email address, to send them the reveal. The email is erased after 90 days.

Why does Shopify say “View customer data” when I install?

That is Shopify's standard wording for the permission that lets an app read the customer on an order. Rarium uses it for the two things in the answer above and nothing else.

Will it slow down my store?

The box page carries a picture of the vessel, the odds and a small script. The 3D reveal loads only when a buyer opens their box, on the order status page or from their reveal link, never with your other pages.

What happens if I go over my plan?

Free stops at 25 pulls a month: boxes pause until the month resets or you upgrade. Paid plans charge a flat fee per extra pull up to a ceiling, and at the ceiling boxes pause instead of billing further. You are never charged past it, and Rarium tells you well before you get there.

Can I install it today?

Not yet. Rarium is in Shopify App Store review, and Shopify does not let an unreviewed public app install on a live store. Founding merchants install first, on approval day, with the Growth plan free for six months.
